We write to inform of the 2020 AFRC plan for the remainder of the year. We hope you’re all keeping safe and well. Since this pandemic started we’ve been monitoring situations closely and have been kept informed regularly both from 750 Motor Club and our National Governing Body – Motorsport UK.
Following on from our strongest and award winning 2019 season we’ve taken the difficult decision to cancel the remaining 2020 AFRC Championship event. This decision has been made for the following reasons:
• 750 Motor Club have lost their event on Silverstone International to make way for the second Formula 1 race of Great Britain.
• The unique way we conduct our competition doesn’t work with short races when there’s a chance of safety cars being deployed. We assess that the operating model, which limits the chance of virus spread will require safety cars.
• Cancelling the event at this moment in time allows for 750 Motor Club to reassign our Oulton Park track time to another championship or series therefore removing any financial impact on our championship.
We are awaiting guidance from our parent military sports associations on when we will be permitted to get back on track and participate in representative sport. We’ve had a significant amount of expenditure for 2020 and we don’t have huge cash reserves to buffer that however by kind agreement from one of our sponsors we are able to offer the following refunds:
Registrations – these can be refunded 100% to the source of the payment (£100) or each registered competitor can have their AFRC account credited with tokens to the value of £120 for future registrations, event entries or shop purchases. Token credits will not have an expiry date.
Event Entry Fees – over the coming weeks competitors will be contacted for their preferred option. Those paid using tokens from their account will be refunded as tokens. Bank transfer payments will be sent back to the source account; card payments will be refunded to the card.
Token Purchases – if requested, competitors can have their token purchases refunded 100%. The only exception to this is competitors who elect to have their registration refunded as 120x tokens. If a request to change this choice is made, the cash value will be £100.
We previously announced that our Royal British Legion charity dinner night on 24 Oct 20 has been postponed until Oct 21.
Whilst this news will be disappointing, we can assure you that the decision has been made based on financial risk against the quality of the competitive championship we assess as being able to provide.
We are hopeful to be competing at the Birkett in October, but await further direction. If we are competing at that event we naturally open up to our veteran and guest competitors to put together some teams (which tokens could be used for).
Competitors will be contacted shortly to understand their wishes. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all competitors, supporters, volunteers and sponsors; without you all we wouldn’t have such a strong championship. Finally we’d like to wish you all the best as we enter the next phase of tackling this pandemic together.
